Recent literature records various lines of attack against penal substitutionary atonement. One of the central thrusts of the Scriptures is that the atonement is, first, objectively accomplished through Jesus Christ and subjectively accomplished through redemption. When pastors reject the penal substitutionary atonement of Jesus Christ, they undercut a major dimension of the exclusivity of the gospel.
